Drilled Bedrock Wells in New Hampshire
Artesian wells, also known as bedrock wells or drilled wells, are becoming more and more common in New Hampshire and the northeast due to their reliability in delivering a safe water supply. Though bedrock wells have a steel casing sealed into the rock, preventing surface contaminants from entering the well, bacteria, Nitrates, and Nitrites should be tested for annually.
Artesian wells are also less likely to go dry during the dry seasons, as opposed to surface wells, due to water bearing fractures that produce a steady flow of water year round. Still, the well’s yield can be increased through hydro-fracking (short for hydro-fracturing), a process which entails pumping high volumes of water into the drill hole to enhance the productivity of existing fractures, joints, and faults.
